Charleston Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on I-26 early Sunday morning. Recent Citadel graduate, 23-year-old Carson Neymoss was struck and killed at 12:40 a.m. According to police, 34-year-old Allen Lee Gillman, Jr. was driving under the influence of alcohol when he hit Neymoss.
The accident threw Neymoss over the I-26 guard rail just before the exits to the Ravenel Street Bridge. Neymoss was pronounced dead at the scene. Gillman was treated for non-life threatening injuries at MUSC. A portion of the interstate was closed for over two hours while crews responded to the incident.
Gillman is currently in custody at the Charleston County Detention Center. He is facing felony DUI charges.
Neymoss graduated from The Citadel in May of 2014. He was a political science major. The Citadel was voted the Number 1 Public College in the South by U.S. News & World Report for the fourth year in a row.
